Dear Alan, Lorna & Girls,
Hope you read my scrawl as jenny has my typewriter. We spent
a long weekend with Jenny, Jim & the kids – the kids make such a fuss of us
& even had to sleep in the roundavel with us.
A friend of Sheila’s saw the dress I had made for Jemma for
her birthday & fell in love with it & ordered 2 for her children, so I
have been busy completing them & I also made 3 pairs of white shorts for
the boys from Daddy’s dust coats.
We had 2 nice days at Jenny’s & we went swimming down at
the river & on Saturday we took the girls to Jagerest for ballet – so Dad
& I had a nice long walk then spent the rest of the time in the pool. The weather here is really cool with just the
odd hot day (not that I am complaining) & we have had lots of rain.
Fay is starting ballet on Tuesday & is so excited she
came over today in her leotards & tights & thinks she is the bees
knees. Jonathon plays cricket & is swimming in the gala next Friday.
We are going to Durban tomorrow with Ronald & coming
back with him on Monday, as it costs too much for us to take our own car.
I am trying to get all my bits & pieces finished before
we go. I have a pure wool jersey for Fay & Lionel to finish. All my seeds
are up in the garden, so should have plenty of vegetables when we get back.
I told Ronald that if he provided the food I would cook for
all of us on a Friday, as I love cooking. So they have taken out a nice pork
roast for me to do. Lesley is very busy on a Friday as Ronald goes off to
Durban. She doesn’t keep a maid.
The Besters have managed to get another house at Hilton on a
6 month lease – they are desperate to buy now & are trying to sell
everything they can to get a deposit. I really hope they can buy or build as it
is every upsetting for the kids moving all the time. Fay woke up the first
night in this new house & asked if it was their holiday house. Jonathon is
doing very well at school & has already been sent to the office for good
work.
My arms tired & I have to get supper so I’ll sign off
now – thanks for the newsy letter.
Tons
of love from,
Dad
& Mum
