From Howick

Dear Alan, Lorna & Girls,
Well a Very Happy New Year to you
all & it was so wonderful to hear you on the phone & especially to talk
to the girls – it will be nice when Stacey can talk also.
……………………………….
After whispering about the rain in
my last letter it has hardly stopped & been very cold & we have hardly
seen the sun except for the last 2 days, which we have spent around the pool.
On Xmas day just as we were sitting down to lunch it got so dark & the lights
went out & we had a mini tornado – we got the tail end – but Howick &
Midmar got it – several caravans overturned & a friend who was there put
all his family in the caravan & he a and his brother held the caravan down
– the brother had two canoes strapped on the roof of his truck & they were
blown off – hundreds of hugh trees were uprooted leaving gaping holes in the
ground. Our lights came on again at 8 p.m. after several phone calls by Jimmy
to Jagersrust. Howick was without lights for a couple of days – everyone phoned
to see if we were OK as it was on T.V.
I am just waiting for Neal to
arrive with the boys – they will stay for a week – Jenny is looking after
Donovan & Taryn & never has any trouble with them at all – they have
spent most of their holiday there. Jonathon swam right across the pool today so
I gave him R1 & he rushed off to spend it & now expects R1 everytime he
swims across the pool.
I have told Debbie to send Fay to
lessons as she is not one bit scared & puts her face right in the water
& I am sure she will swim soon. Jonathon wouldn’t put his face ion the
water until he went to swimming lessons – now dives in all the time. Jenna-Lee spent nearly a week with me &
was ever so good never cried once, but was pleased to see Shelia when she came
for her.
Well no more news & Neal should
be here any minute now.
XXXX Tons of love to everyone
