Dear Alan,
We
received your letter this week. Its looks as if a letter takes at least a week
depending on strikes or go slow. I found out from the RACV how to get an
international license but I need a recent photo of you by yourself e.g. a
passport photo. If we had a photo we can easily get it with your license which
is here but you will have to send a small photocopied from your passport or get
another one taken. If you know where you have one in all the things you left
here we could use that but I just don’t know where to look. You could make inquiries in Johannesburg and
see if you can get one there if we send over your license but I think from what
the lady at the RACV said it is easier to get it here in Melbourne.
It was interesting to read your ideas of South Africa
because we are getting a lot here at present because of the touring rugby team
in New Zealand. There is a lot of bitter talk from both sides and people are
getting a little heated. As you said it is a lot more complicated than people
think. You said your nurses spoke 4 languages but I can only think of
3-English, Afrikaans and their native language. What is the other language. How
many other dentists are you working with and where do they come from?
Pamela is looking after herself now. Finding a bit hard
without frig, washing machine and all other modern things. She is staying with
a girl who is getting married in a few months so she is not buying anything
until after the wedding. Thinks she might get a lot of them as presents. Everybody
else has gone off to hockey. I am going in a minute. Dad is playing golf with
Ray and then they might see Footscray on the way home.
Love
from mum.
