Dear Alan,
It was good to
get a photo of you at work. We can see more and interested what you are doing.
I hope you are better a taking photos than I am. Last month I took some of Anne
and I have taken a few of Lois –when he is home – but I am not very good. Lois
found out where she is going last Friday. She was stunned for all the first day
but she has got used to it now and is packing this week. She is going to a
small town 50 kms past Mildura. The school is very small and only has 12
teachers but everyone says there is no problem with discipline in such a small
school. Last week the temperature in Melbourne was 40 and nobody felt like
doing anything. It was 45 at Mildura and Lois wasn’t very happy. She has spoken
to the principal and he said the school is air-conditioned so heat is no
problem during the day. It seems that no-body from her course got a job in the
city with the education department. Some have got positions in private schools.
The only other ones that she knows about who got positions are one on the Murray
past Albury and another one at Swifts Creek past Orbost. Not really much of a
choice– Lois at least has a warm dry place which is about all you can say of
it.
I have found out where Graham
Robert’s father lives in Snowden Rd But I haven’t been able to speak to him
yet. As soon as I can get him home I will send you the address that you want.
We have spent a good deal of this summer watching on TV Aust playing the West
Indies and Pakistan at cricket and mostly getting beaten. The Australians have
been woeful. Do you ever see on your
papers how well both the visiting teams have been doing in Australia. Do the
black people play much cricket in South Africa because if they were given the
chance they should make very good players. The West Indies especially make the
Australians look like a lot of no-hopers.
Next week back to work. Beverley
is a bit lonely. She is home by herself now and will be a little lost. I hope
when she starts back at the university that she finds some friends. We are all
going to Auntie Grace’s for tea on Thursday so they can say goodbye to Lois.
Lois reckons she is not really going all that far – about nine hours in a
car–which she hasn’t got yet but that doesn’t stop us all going over there for
tea. Win cooks a good meal. Lois is going to Pam’s for tea on Wednesday but
Pamela hasn’t got any tables or chairs yet.
She still eats on the floor or a chair she took from here. Beverley has
just gone out for another driving lesson. One day she should have her license
she gets a bit despondent but she is still trying. It will be better when we get the Mini back
as she can practice
Love
Mum
