From Melbourne (Mum): August 1981

Dear Alan,

It is beginning to get a little warmer now but it is still very wet. In the last month we have hardly been outside at the kindergarten. The children seem to be getting used to staying inside but I would like to get outside. The countryside and the gardens around here are beautiful. Most of the wattle tress are out. I think they are better than they have been for years. What are the main trees and plants that you see in the gardens there? I suppose the gardens are quite different from ours.

Our papers still have a lot of news about the trouble in New Zealand between the two rugby teams or at least the demonstrators and the police.  Do you see much in the papers there or do they censor the news that goes into them.  All the other letters I have received for you are newsletters for the Dental Association of Aust @ of Queensland a letter from Melb Uni asking you to put your money in some bonds of theirs. I am keeping them all because you might find something in them interesting.

                Love from mum.
