Dear Alan,
When
I got home tonight there was your letter giving us some more news.
We have
been trying to work out the best way to see the Victoria Falls as you say we
could be better to go at the end of our holiday. We have booked to leave
Johannesburg on Sunday 20th of May to arrive in Harare 5:30.
What we
would like if possible to go to Victoria Falls for a couple of days then go to
Harare but from here it doesn’t look possible. If you can’t do this from SA
could you please book us a trip to the Victoria Falls from Johannesburg and to
return to Johannesburg to be back in time to catch the plane on Sunday 20th
May. There seem to be plenty of tours to the falls from SA one about 2 days
should be enough.
Even
though you couldn’t get tickets on the Blue Train (I am not surprised most of
the pamphlets say you need to book about 1 year ahead but I thought it was
worth a try) we would still like to go to Capetown. Dad is getting an
International license because we had thought that was a good idea too.
We
think it might be better to go to Capetown by another train or bus. You will
not be able to be with us for long especially if you are going to a new job.
Could you please book us a trip to Capetown the way you think would be in the
time we have or if you think it is better to hire a car for long trips. We are
thinking of using a car for shorter trips but you would know about a car for
longer trips. We are leaving most of the arranging to you because we feel you
know best and you know how many free days you have.
Since
you haven’t mentioned it I guess you were able to book us in at a game reserve.
Could you please let us know how much money we would need to bring. We were
thinking of bringing $2000 each for everything except our air fare to and from.
We could bring some more. Do you think that is enough. Dad seems that the
Kruger game reserve is the best. I am not so sure I will leave it to you.
I am
still reading books about SA. I wouldn’t be surprised if I know more about
their history than some people who live there. But I am still learning.
If you
know any person who could help you I would like to visit some kindergartens
both for white and black children. I could bring photos of the children I work
with and take some photos back to show the children here. This depends on who
you got to know. We would also like to go to an ordinary church service maybe
even a Baptist church if there are any. We are just as interested or more in
meeting the people as well as seeing the country.
You
should get two letters today never mind we need to send them early in the week
or they seem to miss to mail. Yours took a fortnight to get here. They nearly
always do.
Love
from Mum
