Dear Alan,
We
have just had a busy weekend. On Friday night we went to Peter (Neyland’s)
wedding to Julie. They have known each other for a good while because she was
an apprentice to Keith. She is a photo type setter. The wedding was in the Roman Catholic church in Altona.
The priest was very good and it was a good service. After the reception was at
the clubrooms of the Altona hockey club. Bruce and Peter still play hockey.
They have a very good club room as Altona must be one of the strongest hockey
clubs in the state. Bruce’s wife Vivianne is expecting a baby on New Year’s
Eve. Everything at the wedding went well except some awful “speeches”.
Saturday
Pamela had our place in a mess with her last minute packing to go away. Finally
she caught the plane Sunday morning. Neither Clare or Pamela took very much
after all seeing they were going for 6 weeks. Now there is only Dad and myself
here. It is very quiet even quieter still tonight as Dad has gone to a Deacon’s
meeting at the church. We still haven’t got a minister and this meeting to see
about another man who might be interested. Not very many are very keen on
coming here.
Couldn’t
help getting caught up I all the excitement of travelling when we took Pamela & Clare to the airport. I think maybe it would be fun to travel but we still
don’t seem to be able to get anywhere. Although there were supposed to be extra
planes there don’t seem to be many more seats. You never know we might get
overt there.
The new
shopping center they have been building behind us (on the service station site
@ saw mill and old quarry) s opened last week. Was it hectic! I didn’t go and
have a look until Saturday morning and it was still bedlam. Seems to have
settled down now. I think it is an improvement but no really good shops I will
still have to go to Footscray and Highpoint for clothes and furniture. It will be good for small things and
unfortunately not good for the figure. Darryl Lea chocolates have opened a shop
there are several nut shops – I had better stay away.
Haven’t
seen much of Beverley lately – she is getting ready for exams and finishing off
her assignments. Lois came to the airport to see Pamela off. But we haven’t
seen Anne since the school holidays. It was Benjamin’s birthday the same week
as yours but I haven’t been able to say happy birthday to him. It was
Beverley’s 21st birthday next week but she doesn’t want to do
anything reckons she is too busy. The weather is now getting warm it was lovely
today – but we haven’t had much rain but it is still more than you have had.
Now again there is an article in the paper about the drought in Eastern
Africa. Look after yourself
Love
mum
