Dear Alan, Lorna, Melissa and Jolene,
I
have just read a letter Lorna wrote to Mum so this is partly in reply to
it. What struck me is the differences in
schooling – at least at the times they attend. Benjamin will be starting his 2nd
year next week and immediately will be attending from 9:00 am -3:30 pm 5 days a
week.
They do
reading, writing, maths etc with their classroom teacher and go to specialist
teachers for subjects like Library, Art, Music and Physical Education.
There
are about 23 students in each class.
At the
tech school where I teach (students are aged between 11–19 years approx.) classes are never more than 20. This is a
union rule. In reality there are rarely more than 16 and sometimes down to
about 8 students / class.
The
school I am teaching at is decreasing in enrolments due to less children being
in the area and may one day close.
Our
summer – like last year has been very mild, even cold enough to have the heater
on. I think we have had one day over 30C. Most days the maximum has been less
than 22C.
Benjamin’s
swimming lessons have been in the heated pool which is almost next door to Mum
and Dad’s place. I have been swimming laps, while he has his lessons, “to get
fit.”
It has
not been warm enough this summer to go swimming in the beach or a cold pool.
It must
be very hot where you live – it sounds like temperatures of about 40C each day.
It is
good to hear that you are well Lorna. I hope everything goes well for you at
the birth. Is Alan going to be with you at the birth?
Here
husbands are allowed to be at the birth if the wife and husband wish it to be.
When I
know what sex the baby is I will send you something.
